i think if they would have included a negligence charge (for not reporting her daughter missing for 31 days) she would have been convicted for that.
It's only a 1st or 2nd degree misdemeanor.. 1 year or 2 months jail.. not much different than what she got for lying. And I think they'd only have been able to get the 2nd degree. 1st degree requires the state to prove that the defendant inflicted actual personal injury upon the victim. Obviously they weren't able to do that.
