I think its because the charity is not channelled to responsible and real leaders of the community and instead given to some salafi polemical cult to spread salafism who as usual form the tiny fringe cult of the society.

their economies are doing quite well now

That said, Christians are also doing much better as they have established the best institutions which means they have upper-hand in getting better jobs and careers than Muslims
