I don't really know if this is the right place to post this but for the longest time I've been thinking about changing my last name and I'm deciding I'm finally going to do it. I just want to know if anyone can give me some good suggestions. My birth name is Choudhury but I don't like it and would rather have something Islamic.

its a great intention that u have mashallah but without putting you off (Anything which increases our zeal for islam is a good thing inshAllah), may I ask how is choudry unislamic? I dont know much about the name to be honest.

proper islamic names are like dawud ibn yahya al qurayshi, your name, son of you our dads name, al your tribes names. i dont think you can really do that on western documents.

i changed my name upon taking shahada to dawud beale, i retained my surname name whilst changing first name and getting rid of middle name.

my daughter is fatimah dawud, her name then my first name. why not call yourself after your dads first name as this is most in line with islamic teachings, rather than having a "family surname" like westerners do. most muslims seem to follow the western way but i called my daughter after my first name rather than family name of my father
