Well, I wouldn't necessarily say we're close, but we are definitely friends as well as sisters. She's actually moving to Poland for a year or so, thus the "mediator" role wouldn't fit at all. I believe I would tell my mom first, but I still just can't even think of how to do it.

as I don't know how best to help you. I would suggest you dig through conversion stories here and online and read about how various people approached their parents about their conversion, what happened immediately after and how things changed over time. Here is one such story and this particular site might have others for you (I should add that I do not know anything about this site, it came up in a google search so please forgive me if there is anything there that is offensive to you). Ultimately every story will be different but there may be some obvious things to avoid or do.

Please keep updating this thread too (if you are comfortable doing so), so that other reverts who read your story in the future can learn from you too insha'Allah
