It was Hadrath Abdullah ibn Umar
who made a comment as changes started to occur to Madina and how he would have wanted the homes of the Sahabah preserved so that people could see the simple lives that they lived.
So the preservation of the surrounding homes would have served a distinctive purpose.
Not all that the Saudi Government is doing is out of a bad intention or the need to grow and expand for the sake of expanding. There are some practical uses. Have you tried to go for Salaah from Misfala to the Haram at peak times during Hajj? What if you are elderly and need to go frequent to the toilet, or diabetic and need to get to your hotel quickly?
