Assalam-o-Alaikum.

Firstly, I would like to inform the members that I am from the Sunni faith/belief. Yesterday, I had posted the following on my facebook since I received it from an authentic source:

Prophet Sallallaho Al'aihe Wasallam him said:

.....for those of you who live after me will see great disagreement. You must then follow my sunnah and that of the rightly-guided caliphs. Hold to it and stick fast to it. Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error. [Abu dawood Book 40, Chapter Model Behavior of the Prophet (Kitab Al-Sunnah)Number 4590]

Abdullah Ibn Masud said:

"Whoever wants to follow an example, let him follow the example of those who have passed away, the Companions of Muhammad Sallallaho Al'aihe Wasallam. They were the best of this ummah, the purest in heart, the deepest in knowledge, the least in sophistication. They were people whom Allah chose to be the Companions of His Prophet Sallallaho Al'aihe Wasallam and to convey His religion, so imitate their ways and behaviour, for they were following the Straight Path." [Mishqat al Masabih Volume 001, Page No. 68-9, Hadith Number 193]

In response to my post, a shia friend of mine posted the following with sunni references:

The Holy PROPHET (pbuh&hp) said:
"Verily, ALI and I are inseparable, and he is the master (wali) of every believer after me."
Sunni Refernces:
* Al Tirmidhi, in his Sahih, ii, 297,
* Ahmad ibn Hanbal in his Musnad, iv, 437, v, 356;
* Abu Dawud al Tayalisi in his Musnad, iii, 111, xi, 360;
* al Haythami, Majma al Zawaid, ix, 109, 127, 128, 199;
* al Khatib al Baghdadi, Tarikh Baghdad, iv, 339;

That shia friend also told me to check the following link:

Can people with ample knowledge about this topic shed light on whether the hadith quoted by my shia friend is authentic or not? If so, what was the background or the proper narration of the hadith? At the same time, the link provided by the same shia friend contains the book version of 'Ali in Tafseers'. I found it quite disturbing since it contained text which really is in direct conflict with our Sunni beliefs. I couldn't read it beyond the 2nd page. Infact, I couldn't read it beyond point #3, #4, #5 and #6 properly. Especially point # 3 on that link (2nd page) was like a blow on my head. Please shed light on point # 3 as well as the other points mentioned in that book. Is it authentic or just another example of fake political extremism by the shia sect?

Kindly respond in light of Quran and Sunnah and not in lieu of personal assumptions since this is a very delicate matter to me.

JazakAllah.
the hadeeth your shia friend quote doesnt talk about Ali R.A being as a divine imam after the demise of Prophet S.w. It was simply said at a time when on a journey back to medina from Makkah and some Sahabas had some differences with Ali R.A , so the Prophet was encouraging them to reconciliate. And wali means a friend in arabic. So to take this simple hadeeth and blow it out of proportion to prove a false creed of Shiaism is no new tactic. They have been doing this for a long time. No need to waste your time and energy . They will always bring sunni references and use them out of context to prove their false beliefs.
