The wetness of the miswak itself (sap) is overlooked as well. However wetting a miswak and using it is avoidable. Hence such water must not go down your throat. Since it endangers you passing water down the throat, it is makruh to wet miswak and use it.

The "taste" of a non-flavoured (natural) miswak is permitted but be careful of the flavoured one (with mint, lime, etc.) swallowing that will be like swallowing toothpaste - breaking the fast.

What's the position of miswak toothpaste? The ingredients are from the miswak and made into a paste. Can you swallow that or not whilst fasting?
