As-salamu alaykum.

I have two related questions about the order of the Qur'an that I hope the members here can help me find answers to.

1) Why was the Qur'an not arranged in chronological order?

2) I believe that the Qur'an was standardized under Caliph Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). What was the process by which the Qu'ran's order was standardized?

Please review any book of on the sciences of the Quran (Uloom Al Quran) and Inshallah you will readily find all the answers to such questions as relating to the sciences of the Quran.

You can download Abu Ammars (Yasir Qadhis) "Introduction to the sciences of the Quran" here http://kalamullah.com/al-quran.html and another really helpful text is Mufti Taqi Usmanis 'Uloomul Quran' which has been translated into english and is a must read.

If you can read arabic, you can have a look at Imam Suyutis 'Itqan fi Ulum Al Quran' or Imam Al Zarkashi's 'Al Burhan fi Ulum Al Quran'. Although, I would recommend starting with the above mentioned texts.
