AbuFatimah, the Saudis get a lot of criticism because they have taken control of the haramain. They have taken that responsibility upon themselves (by force, I might add), so it's natural they ought to be held to a higher standard. Moreover, they are coming from a very different set of circumstances than other Muslim nations. They were not the victims of two and a half centuries of European colonialism- they were its beneficiaries. They had the benefit of oil wealth, which is something most Muslim nations don't have.
You should also realize that even if you ever visit there, your perception of Saudi will be very different to others for a number of reasons: you are salafi, you are british, and you are white. You will never experience the vicious, institutionalized mistreatment of other non-khaleejis which is a serious problem in Saudi and well documented.
Finally, I don't know why you keep bringing up the same tired point of not criticizing the "rulers". There is no unified Islamic state nowadays for there to be an amir. Abdullah is certainly not my amir. Furthermore, by allying themselves with the kuffar and making war on other Muslims, they have proven their own illegitimacy. Imam alHusain fought Yazid for smaller reasons than that.
