Which commentary would you recommend?

The two best commentaries are those of al-Attasi and Ali Haydar.

The first is printed by Rashidiyyah in Kweta and available throughout Pakistan and is titled "Sharh Majallah al-Ahkam". It is ultra-rare in the Arab world.

The second is very common and has been printed a number of times. It is titled "Durar al-Hukkam". The Dar al-Jil and the Ilmiyyah editions are the most common.

The second is written in a very orthodox manner, clarifying the text and mentioning related masail, without much research involved. This would be recommended for most Ulama.

The first - Attasi's Sharh" is a muhaqqaq work, full of research, with him differing with many authorities before him-including Ibn Abidin- on a myriad of issues and is recommended for those who are well-versed in Fiqh and able to fully grasp his research and sift through what is acceptable from what isn't.
