I've heard of a similar hadith and I think you do it in salah, though I dont think you say the ta'awuudh. You just spit to your lift, but without actually spitting out saliva. This is all I know about this issue. You should ask a mufti for a definite answer.

Yeah insha'Allah, but as they must be very busy in this period with people asking about masa'il of Ramadan, I wanted to give a try on SF before bothering them!...
