I know this is not necessarily a "proof", but one of the reasons for what I adopted was that in an article by Nir Rosen about the Twelver Shias of Baghdad and the civil war that was raging in Iraq at that time, the Twelver Shia pointed to the shrine of Abu Hanifah and said that therein lies the son of "illegal things" (not to use the actual words he used).

When I read that, I knew that if Abu Hanifah enraged the Twelvers so much, it was only correct for me to adopt his methodology, since what the Twelvers hate is normally the best of what Allah loves.
