Cost of living in the UAE and Qatar exceeds cost of living in most parts of the US, unless its SFO or NYC.

And cost of doing Umrah is cheaper but not Haj, which is as expensive as , or even more than doing it from the UK, not to mention the quota for foreigners which is stricter than other Muslim countries.

I don't know about UAE or Qatar, but from my experience of living in Eastern Saudi for over a decade, it was a lot cheaper than living in Canada and the US. Maybe the cost of living in the UAE or Qatar seems higher in comparison to South Asia, but when I was there, it was cheaper than here in general. Of course, some things were pricier, such as electronics, but food, shelter, etc. were cheaper than they are here in Canada.
