The way some Asians do it is really wasting a lot of water.

The one that the non-Muslims do, it saves much more water and gets it clean.

Not if you run the tap real slow. The non Muslim way is not clean if you don't rinse after soaking. Many old people still do it this way.

Off topic:
Many non Muslims would say washing with water after the toilet is a waste of water all you need is a dry wipe with tissue and a shower every day (assuming you shower daily which isn't the case for all of them)
