You are wrong, Shafi'i Madhab doesn't allow wiping over cotton socks in wudu, because its not sturdy enough to be used without shoes and also doesn't prevent water penetration.

I believe the following is correct:

It's actually the other way around.
Hanafi, Shafi'i, and Maliki school all are against masah over normal socks; only in the Hanbali school there is some leeway.
