Well they do consider it impermissible if one does it while making dua seeking to use him as a waseela for the acceptance of their dua.

So I think you should ask the OP to which Salafi claim he is responding by saying that saying "Ya Rasulullah" is permissible as even the Salafis (at least if Islam Q&A is an accurate gauge of what most Salafis believe) says that it is permissible to do so unless one intends to call upon him or unless one believes that even from afar he hears your statement.
