yes for ahnaaf you could read with the cloth but the cloth if Im not mistaken should not be attached to you the holder-so you cant use your shirt that you wearing to handle it. you can turn the pages with a pencil too.

And also that the cloth shouldn't be part of the Qur'an i.e It's cover.
