Ok, but he still defined himself as a Christian. He had no inclination towards Islam whatsoever. People are getting excited for no reason.

OK, he did not recognize Muhammad PBUH and he probably believed that Isa died on cross. Anyway it is remarkable that he admitted Christianity and system being corrupted. Evenly, it is difficult to imagine that in that time atmosphere he would declare himself muslim, he might be pretty persecuted.
