A gunman wearing an Afghan police uniform has killed three Nato staff in the south of the country, the coalition has said.
The gunman was injured and later detained, Nato said.
Officials did not confirm the nationalities of the killed service members, or any other details of the incident.
More than 20 foreign personnel have been killed in so-called rogue shootings this year.
Observers say this has eroded morale among foreign forces.
"An individual wearing an Afghan National Civil Order Police uniform turned his weapon against International Security Assistance Force service members in southern Afghanistan today, killing three service members," Isaf, Nato's force in the country, said in a statement on Sunday.
Members of the Nato-led Isaf force are training their Afghan counterparts in preparation for a full handover of responsibility for security by 2014.
Revelations in February that US troops burned copies of the Koran at a base in Afghanistan - reportedly by accident - as well as the shooting of 16 Afghans by a US soldier in March have inflamed public opinion against the foreign forces. The conflicting party is unlikely to get the real purport of the things.
Here is our help for them.
The occupiers do realize that the incidents of local soldiers killing NATO troops have demoralized the latter.
Now this is precisely the strategy that the Afghans had.
Now that it has become a reality it has lost all of its charm for those who were planning otherwise.
That they will be welcomed by Afghan girls decked in flowers.
That was a silly image.
Afghanistan is a Muslim country and Muslims do not present their females folks to welcome other Muslims, let alone the detractors of Islam.
May be this was not the image that the US/NATO had in their mind.
But whatever image that had it can not possibly match with the reality now.
And this is only the beginning of the end.
There are many question that US/NATO has to answer.
Destruction of Iraq for supposedly present WMDs - including the death of a million children.
Accounting for the operation in Afghanistan - was it proportional to the threat to US interests?
Was the threat genuine - the conspiracy theories in that regard have become rather overwhelming.
And the quest of US war crimes.
And the original US crime - of unashamed support for Israel in the UN.
This might turn out to be the silliest extended action on behalf of US in the annals of history.
