Great Revivalists Linked
Someone put a Barelvi refutation of Sheikh Uthman dan Fodio (ra) which called him a Wahhabi on here recently, which I think got deleted (good if it was).
Anyway there is a link between Sheikh Uthman dan Fodio (ra) and Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab (ra), but is only the type of link that Imam Shah Waliullah (ra) also shares with him - that is through teachers and especially going back to an important scholar who is not as famous as his importance deserves.
He was Sheikh Ibrahim al-Kurani al-Madani (ra).
He was an influential teacher of Shah Waliullah,
whilst his student Sheikh Muhammad Hayat al-Sindi (ra) was an influential teacher of Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab (ra)
At the same time one of Uthman dan Fodio's teachers was Sheikh Jibreel ibn ‘Umar (ra) who studied with Muhammad Murtada az-Zabeedee (ra) who was a student of Shah Waliullaah (ra) who was a student of Sheikh Ibrahim Kurani (ra)
whilst Uthman dan Fodio's uncle Sheikh Muhammad bin Raaj was a student of Sheikh Abu’l-Hasan as-Sindee who was a student of Sheikh Kurani's (ra) pupil Sheikh Muhammad Hayaat as-Sindee (ra) who was the teacher of Muhammad ibn Abul Wahhab (ra).
All of them were being influence by Sheikh Ibrahim Kurani who was a lover of Ibn Taymiyyah (ra), but also a Sufi and traditional (Shafi'i?) scholar who didn't share all of Ibn Taymiyya's.
In fact several revivalists were students of Sheikh Ibrahim Kurani or his students, but of these only Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab (ra) downplayed Sufism, the others promoted Orthodox Sufism as did Uthman dan Fodio (ra) and Shah Waliullah (ra).
(any way there is breif introduction to Sheikh Uthman dan Fodio (ra) here for anyone who doesn't know who he is
