Pluto, I appreciate your efforts here, and I think you have made some really good points in your post, but I wanted to comment on your statement that I have quoted. While I agree with you that facts and information should be checked for accuracy, and there is a great deal of misinformation floating around, not everyone has the benefit of studying Islam with a scholar outside of the internet. Some people live in remote locations. (I never cease to be surprised at how far reaching the internet is, located in even the remotest and more surprising of locations.)
Bismillah.
Greetings Sister PouringRain, sorry for the late response, was busy so couldn't respond earlier.
Your user-name reminds me of one of my favorite pastimes:

Video in accordance with Shariah

Anyways, sister, coming to your question, I do understand what you mean to say, yet in Islam / the great Scholars place a great deal of stress in the 'experience' of seeking knowledge / in the pursuit of knowledge, through the Internet, one may en-quire the 'knowledge' but never the 'essence' of Islam.

Believe me sister, there's nothing like physical company of a Scholar [Male / female scholars ] to seek knowledge from. Of course, for each and everything, it may not be possible that for each and everything to leave your home, but one needs to connect with a scholar at some point in the beginning, the true scholars through whose efforts there is still some semblance of REAL Islam in the world all made great sacrifice of wealth and time just like the companions of the Prophet [pbuh] did.

Today we too do the same thing but for worldly education

Today we all make such sacrifice's to acquire worldly education, we spend millions, spend years and years toiling to get an undergraduate / post graduate degree which stays relevant only for the next 30-40 years, then why shouldn't we [at-least] give a part of that to learn about those matters which will make or break our life for eternity!

Do you know even the mods concur with what I've said:
Mod brother Rahmaniyyah...
Readers are advised to take knowledge only from the 'Ulama [Scholars] - not a random poster behind a computer screen. Around me I'm seeing people even from remote places doing everything they can to get educated the traditional way, around where I live an online degree course / correspondence / distance education isn't even considered when applying for a job.

Really sis, its all about the essence.
There are numerous traditions which talk of sacrificing one's wealth and time in seeking knowledge.

I humbly request you to read the following incidents from the Companions [ra] of the Last Prophet, Prophet Muhammad [pbuh] and other Scholars [rh].

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I will make Dua to Allah SWT to guide you to Islam, inshaAllah.
This minuscule effort is for the sake of Allah SWT.
