Many people in authoritative positions have grandiose ideas but no common sense. When presented with one of these "pie in the sky ideas" I will usually first repeat what they said and then say"Well, if that is what you really want ., then we have to do this and this and this and it will cost you this and this and this". Usually upon reflection of reality the response is either "Okay, forget it." or "Okay, do what you can." You can sometimes argue with logic (and an employee who knows what they are talking about) but it most likely doesn't hold up.
