I believe this version about as much as I believe the "Official" version. I.E. not at all.

One of the more useful techniques of disinformation is to propagate a lie, then propagate a different variation of the same lie (making it appear that there is some kind of conspiracy or coverup)... then sit back and watch as people fight over which of the two lies is the "truth".
