I dunno. We had a wrongful death action against a group of guys who had been convicted of manslaughter. The plaintiff requested leave of court to serve on of them by publishing in a newspaper because the defendant couldn't be located. Er...isn't he is jail?? Nope, he was sentenced to only six months and had been released.
