Estimates of numbers of Afghan civilians killed, maimed and displaced as a result of Soviet occupation are widely available.

But of course, we all know that the real truth is that the Soviet army just strew daisies and rose petals about the countryside and never hurt a fly.

And the NA weren't individual citizens "under" Taleban rule - they are/were well organized and equipped ethnic militias loyal to their individual leaders.
