interesting thread. while laying in bed around 1am about a week ago i suddenly heard this sound, very loudly. at first i sat up and listened for something familiar, because about 2km from my house is a train station that, every now and then, has a diesel train come through with 40 odd carrages that can be quite loud but this seemed a little too loud for the distance. the first though that came to mind, funny enough, was the sounds shared between a science team and spacecraft from 'close encounters of the third kind', mostly because it wasnt high pitched, but it had alot of bass while lacking the rumble effect associated with bass.

possibly still a train, but now that others are hearing things, im gonna ask around and see if others heard it.
