Here is more description from Netherlands Govt:
The Quick Reaction Alert is composed of 2 fully armed F-16s that are on standby 24/7.
29-08-2012
2 F-16 fighter aircraft took off today to intercept an Airbus passenger aircraft from Málaga in Spain, after air traffic controllers were unable to establish radio contact with the pilots. They escorted the aircraft, which was carrying 180 passengers, until it landed at Schiphol Arport, where Marechaussee units were standing by to board the aircraft.
Above Flevoland, the F-16s broke the sound barrier, resulting in a sonic boom heard on the ground. If no radio contact can be established with an aircraft, F-16 pilots will try to identify the aircraft and make visual contract with its crew. In this instance, the F-16s took off from Volkel Air Base, where they were standing by as part of the Quick Reaction Alert.
UPDATE 16.10 hrs:
After the aircraft had landed in a specially cordoned-off sector at Schiphol Airport, Royal Netherlands Marechaussee negotiators established that the aircraft had not been hijacked and that there was no hostage situation. Marechaussee spokesperson Captain Martijn Peelen: “The captain came out and after consultations with him behind an armoured vehicle, it was established that there was no emergency.” An arrest team of the Marechaussee’s Special Security Missions Brigade was also standing by at the runway. Captain Peelen: “We followed the procedures for a hijacking, because we received a report that an aircraft was being escorted in by 2 F-16s.”
