again, the people missing, will have references for this. but maybe you too can confirm this..and even now, terms like brahmana tejas, and brahmana kaLai, are used to differentiate us from the rest of tamil nadu. i have heard so much in my own family, even from folks, who are as black as charcoal.

The terms like brAhmana tEjas/kalai etc were upanishadic messages, that realized, spiritual would exhibit such clarity in the face. The same of description exists among the NBs, esp. among those zamins, kings etc. If you analyze the names of many castes history, they are named as kallar/mallar/veera saivar etc. even agam-udaiyar means tejas. Each varna and each mother is proud of their lineage/children's tEjas. Self-praise/image is required for motivation, but shouldn't lead to bad gossips! A powerful NB might call a B boy, thayir choru, sOpalAngi etc.

So, I won't take that serious.
