Tantras are basically instruction manuals. Agamas are also Tantras. Another name is Yamalas. Pancharatras are also Tantras.

There are Saivite, Saktha and Vaishnavite Tantras. Then there are Buddhist tantras.

They are not philosophical treatises. In fact there is not much philosophy in the Tantras. These are only interpretations by different people.

The day to day Hinduism especially regarding worship in temples and by individuals mostly follow Tantrik practices.

Tantras are from The Karma Kanda portion of the Vedas.
