I am reminded of what Manian wrote in his travelogue titled 'Idhayam Pesugirathu' when he visited Mexico. He happened to visit many ancient archaeological sites there and to his surprise, he found worship of the serpents (naga) very popular there once upon a time.
Soon after his return, he met Kanchi Maha Periyavaal and expressed his doubt. To this, Maha Periyavaal said, "If you drill the Earth from our country at 180 degrees angle, at the other end, you will reach Mexico. There is a quite a possibility that Mexico was actually the country which our ancient works described as 'Nagaland' or 'Padhala Lokam".
