Religion is a major influencing factor in politics, policy in United States. Stem Cell Research, Abortion, gay marriage are hot button social issues. Politicians do a delicate dance around this to avoid offending relgious right. To me, suggesting anything contrary to that doesnt seem to be an accurate representation of reality. Extrapolating few opinions and drawing parallels between religions seem to be a stretch.
