He was much more than that. Of the four Ray's films I have watched, I liked the rest better than Pather Panjali. (I badly need to revisit it anyway. I saw it long back). 'Nayak' & 'Aranyer Din Ratri' were absolutely fantastic. Keeping these two films in my mind, I voted for the third option.
