Turks are a good candidate. Perhaps any group with a type of childish nationalism are touchy, so I'd say the french and spaniards are also very touchy.

Nah. That's just what they try to convince you of. Those with a low self-esteem feel a constant need to reassure themselves by trying to convince everybody else.

That's something you virtually NEVER hear from americans imo, despite being the most dominant force in the world culturally, economically and many other areas. There's a lot of flagwaving and nationalism in the US yes, but when you meet americans IRL they never sit and brag about how great their country is.

That's why I mentioned Spain and France. They have such a childish type of nationalism. They'll start sulking if you say something bad about their country and when it comes to feats and exploits there's nothing they won't try to lay a claim on - no matter how absurd it sounds. It's like talking to a 5-year old.

(Sorry if I'm making very blanket statements here, but it's just the nature of the subject)

Well then, Scotland must be similar to France and Spain in this regard.

The Scots are always on about their great inventors of the past and how England has oppressed them for centuries.

That is totally false. Probably the Spanish are one of the more self- critical people, although like the other countries, do not like criticism from foreigners. Neither the Spanish are in favor of self-aggrandizement.

There is a phrase that says:

If someone laud England is English, if speak ill of Prussia is a French, and if he speaks ill of Spain is Spanish.

And Spain is only nationalist in football, the rest of the time carrying a flag of Spain is regarded as something cheesy, rancid, fascist, by a considerable section of society.

Here many people have swedish flags outside their homes all the time.

But I think I've only seen that in Sweden and USA.

Sounds like the same syndrome then. Low self-esteem (perhaps because England really did opress them, I don't know much about it). I can't remember having met any scots but I'll take your word for it.

Turks are very nationalistic, much in the same, childish way I suppose. Perhaps that's why they are so touchy. Because quite frankly, there can't be many current things they are proud of. Despite a massive population of over 80 million the country barely has any impact on the world.

But that's the thing. If you have to be spanish to say anything about Spain then you don't handle critizism very well.

(And btw, you just recently popped up in a thread about Salsa to claim Spain's supposed impact on popularizing it. There's no level you spaniards won't stoop to, is there? It doesn't matter how absurd or far-fetched the claim is lol).

There's nothing special about that. Sweden is the same way. People will often assume that you are right-wing and nationalistic if you wave flags etc. Out of curiosity I have actually asked a lot of exchange students if it's the same way in their countries. And it is. Germany, UK and in many other european nations it's enterpreted by most people as a very right-wing thing to do, to wear the nation's flag, to wave it, or to put it on a wall in your house etc.

I really do not feel that the Turks are touchy here. Just that they have a large user base, so responses pertinent to Turkey or their ethnicity will garner more replies.

..but not in Sweden. You don't live here (don't you live in Benelux?).

Just give my 15 minutes and I can go out in my neighborhood and take pictures of all houses that have swedish flags outside. And then show the pictures here for you.

What is your definition of "touchy"? This probably varies from country to country. Worldwide I'd say that Muslims are the touchiest for obvious reasons.

In the US, Aframs would be the touchiest. It's the only group I know of that has large scale ethnic group based violence in retaliation to real or perceived prejudice (ie the LA riots, or Trayvon Martin retaliatory attacks). Many people are predicting that there might be new Afram riots as a result of the trial around that case.

Even on an individual level, Aframs are often prone to perceiving day to day activities as being discriminatory against them which can produce a volatile reaction not seem in other ethnic groups.

Sorry to sound un-politically correct but this is the reality in the US.
