Default Extended poll: which nations are European?
A badly beaten dead horse, certainly, but I failed to find a suitable general poll on the subject, at least within the recent history of the forum.

The definition of European is up to the voters, since it would be difficult to coordinate it. It is most likely a combination of physical, political, cultural, geographical and other factors; the weight of each depends on the person.

If you have the time, please assign importance to the different factors on a 1 to 10 scale. Obviously, the factors are pretty general and there are many missing nuances (such as population distribution in geography).

What factors matter most to me when determining who is European?
1 = completely unimportant, 10 = extremely important
Physical (factors) - fitting into Europe phenotypically and genetically ("Ukrainians are European because they are white Slavs hard to distinguish from Poles")
Religion - fitting into Europe religiously ("Bosnians are not European because they are predominantly Muslim")
Views - fitting into Europe because of views prevalent nowadays ("Serbian homophobia is deeply un-European, as is their militarism and nationalism")
Cultural - fitting into Europe by possessing certain cultural traits ("Only countries influenced directly by the Renaissance can be called European")
Historical - fitting into Europe due to being called European for a long time ("Greeks invented the very definition of Europe, Turks - like white Americans in America - are alien")
Interaction - fitting into Europe by interacting with other recognised Europeans frequently and profoundly ("Turks are constantly interacting with Europeans, while the Mordvins are isolated - why call them European?")
Self-ID - being European through regarding oneself as European ("Most Tatars consider themselves European, so they are European")
Geography - fitting into Europe geographically ("Chechnya clearly lies in Europe, north of the Caucasus, why would anyone think Chechens non-European?")
Political/Economic - fitting into Europe politically, through membership in organisations or because organisations think so ("Croatia becomes European by being included into the EU, Russians shouldn't bother")
Other

Factors that really matter when determining who is European:

1. - Being a descendant of a moron who left his cave the day before yesterday: 10.

2. - Speaking Barbaric languages: 10.

3. - Being sure that believing in a particular Semitic religion makes someone more European than believing in the other two Semitic religions: 10.

4. - Teaching everyone about Democracy and Civilization two minutes after hiding the ashes from their gassed Jews: 10.

5. - Stealing all his civilization from people he considers to be inferior: 10.

6. - Confusing the making of gadgets with creating a civilization: 10.

7. - Having been an anecdote in History during the most of It: 10.

Physical (factors) - 8
Yes, it is important. I think that looks is a very basic thing we noticed firstly. Basic does not necessarily mean unimportant. Let's be honest here.
Religion - 8
I don't think that my ancestors 700 years ago distinguished between Christianity and Islam or that they thought about their Europeaness (Europe as a concept did not even exist for them probably), but now we have situation when almost all Europe has a layer of Christianity. We can not ignore this.

It's ridiculous: "You are not European because you don't support gays". Fuck that.

Well, actually, the main reason for the thread was the poll. Due to the silly interface, it takes a while to add all the options. Meanwhile, the thread kept hanging.

not this again
Like I said, I failed to find a generalised poll on the question. They all deal with specific ethnicities and fail to present the big picture. Moreover, many polls are closed and you can't see who gave which reply. For instance, in the current poll you can see that Abenjadun is joking and giving part-reverse replies, so he is basically saying that he protests against this poll. Meanwhile, Idriz gave a normal reply.

Latvians are even not listed... cool.
Neither are Belarusians, Frenchmen, Bulgarians, etc. The poll is bloated as it is. I would imagine if someone considers Lithuanians European or non-European, he does the same with Latvians. I had to separate Estonians because some believe they are either more western due to being 'Northern European', while others regard them as not quite European due to the Finno-Ugric language.

The whole topic is stupid... it has been discussed here for so many times. I honestly don't care... I am leaving this thread.
