Do American or Canadian black people relate to the blacks living in the Caribbean? By relate I mean do you guys get along? do you share values and culture etc....?

In the summer I often play cricket with black people from the Caribbean, mainly from Jamaica, Trinidad, Bahamas, Bermuda etc.... I find them similar in many ways, yet also some how different to american/canadian black people.

We share common ancestry in West Africa, while South American Blacks(Brazilians) have ancestry mostly from Central Africa

Some of my best friends are American blacks but thats becuase I grew up here...on a whole I would agree that there are significant differences between Caribbean Blacks and American Blacks. Culture is a huge one. Caribbean Blacks tend to stress excelling in education more imo. Caribbean Blacks also tend to be more conservative. I think a big reason for this is the fact that the Caribbean Blacks were influenced by the British and the American Blacks were influenced by descents of British/European people who were trying to establish a new identity outside of Europe.

Do they get along, Old school Caribbeans and Old School Americans most times dont. Big Culture/values Difference...But in the end same people at the end of the day

When I was in Trinidad, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. I did feel a commonality with the Afro descendants there because we share common West African roots.

But Anglo Caribbean culture is alot more British influenced than Afram culture(Especially thier love for Cricket), and with the exception of Trinidad, Blacks are not a minority of the population like in the US, so there's less of a need to emphasise "Blackness" like we do on the North American mainland.

I think we share more than we believe, nobody just has really studied these relationships.

Yes, I generally relate to American Blacks. Not completely of course, as we are not exactly the same

A lot of Candian Blacks are actually descended from Caribbean Blacks. Half of my lady's fam lives in Canada and many were born there, however they're or their parents are originally from JA.

yup there is huge Caribbean population here both new and old. we have a annual festival here in Toronto called "Caribana" its huge. I have been attending it for the last 2-3 years

Yeah I know, they've been trying to get me to go to Caribana for years. BTW, my woman whose been to Toronto plenty of times tells me Toronto is mostly Indian. Is this true? I guess this also includes Pakis, you know it's very rare for my people to be able to distinguish the two, which I know might be disliked by your folks. Pardon our ignorance we don't know...

^ yeah indians are huge, pakistanis less so, but there are many blacks as well from every where. Toronto is one the most multicultural cities in the world. also its hard to distinguish between indians and eastern pakistanis, they are basically the same people, but western pakistanis are more similar to afghanistan, they look different

Im sure they are, but Jamaicans in Jamaica and Jamaicans anywhere else are naturally gonna be different from each other. I identify with being Jamaican because I know them (and because im part Jamaican) so well but I simply grew up somewhere different. So its only natural that the Jamaicans in UK will be different

Yeah its funny that most British Caribbeans in the UK are more likely to be in the Ghettos, affected by Gang culture etc and British Africans are more likely to have a big focus on education and careers, especially Nigerians but in the USA it seems its the other way round.

Same with Pakistanis in UK, very ghetto, gang culture is rife and their known to be main drug dealers in some of the bigger cities and small towns and feared by other minorities as the trouble makers, similar to the Latinos in USA, but it seems the Pakistanis in USA are more likely to be social outcasts or not cool enough and not really ghetto at all.
