I'm just curious since, having been on these forums for a short while, I feel like this is a common theme for almost all members (even if the reaons may vary).
Do you think most people here have some personal issue with their race, background, ethnicty or nationality? Is that the reason why most people are here, and interested in these things? (Edit: Perhaps the thread's title was a bit intimidating if people felt like they had to make a personal confession. That wasn't the point.) |

I tend to think we anthro-heads on these forums all share a certain" identity hang up," in one way or another. I think all humans have this, but only we anthro-heads have the balls to face it head-on. ![]() Perhaps I should clarify real quick btw. Some common themes seem to be this: - They reside in a country where don't fit the phenotype. - They have an inferiority complex over their race / ethnicity. - They come from a mixed racial/ethnic background. - They have very strong opinions about their country and national identity. And then there are these constant battles between Turks and Kurs, Pakistanis and Indians, Hispanics and Latinos, Jews and Muslims and so on and so forth... |

Most of the people here have serious issues. Plenty are Cultural and Ethnic Politicians who are not here for objective anthropological analysis but instead choose to be here to impose a representation either of themselves, their country or other peoples cultural and genetic heritage. Plenty of that in the Latin American admixture thread. Pretty lame overall.
There are serious posters though they are very few compared to all the jokers and trolls.... |

I don't think it should be analyzed this seriously..I take this place in a lighter way, in the sense that, I think of it as an intriguing forum given the ethnic/racial/religious diversity of the member base, so I'm genuinely interested in learning about their opinions, worldviews, how they view society..etc. and I try to contribute in a way that would enlighten people about the Middle East. I honestly have learned quite a bit about places and cultures I wasn't familiar with in the past. It's just as simple as that..I don't think the majority of members here are weird or have issues.

There are other threads discussing the subject of who posts here and why. I think you're correct, generally speaking. I was led here by genetic genealogy research, but find myself engaged in many more discussions about nationalism and/or race. I also can't deny that I sometimes enjoy a good flame war, and there are plenty to be found here.
This "high brow freedom of speech" concept is basically a farce. The high brow discussions which do happen are often derailed into flame wars. The people who are banned, return a few days later under a new account, and persist for weeks or months, provoking flame wars and derailing threads. Even the legitimate members are often caricatures of themselves. |

I came here to kind of understand more about my background and to meet people who have more knowlege than i do about genetics and history...although generally speaking you are absolutely right that most people have some kind of insecurity about thier ethnic background... although many others just want to know more about where they came from and who theyre ancestors were....that is why sometimes i wonder why people who know that they are pure european or whatever have to care so much of thier ancestry and have to insult other ethnic groups because they really shouldnt have an inferiority complex if they want to be pure european

Not just here, but I find a lot of negative talk about African American/black people. No one's ethnic/cultural background is free from people with flaws but we seem to catch the most hell of everyone, and I'm not sure why. I liken it to people needing to have someone on the bottom to feel better about themselves.

Yes, I have issues and am twenty-two flavors of fucked up. Doesn't really have anything to do with my race or ethnicity, though.
Now take elone, that's someone with racial hang-ups. Did you see what he just posted? Yeah, imagine that, but every single post. You know I love you nigga, but it's the truth. |

yo,i hear you, these crackas always be talkin down a brotha, namsayin.they just be hatin cuz we fly thats all. They jus hate to see a real nigga shine you feel me? Our swag (mostly mine tho) be on one hunnid. No, one hunnid thousend bruh. Real talk. I don't even find that it's the white people. It's the odd little comments from other multiethnics that make me wonder how they really feel about themselves with respect to their multiethnicity. Like, once you meet the 50% African "tipping point" you're "less than" someone else. Discovering things about myself via genealogical research and then DNA analysis corroborated what I already knew. It doesn't change what I call myself or how I self-identify, except perhaps in health questionnaires, where my actual racial admixture may be a factor. I've always said that we people of the African diaspora are more alike than we want to claim, and it is tragic that we still need to find ways to divide ourselves. For all of the people to come together to make us who we are could only be one of God's miracles. Whatever I am percentage-wise doesn't even matter much anymore. It's the wondering about the people who crossed each other's paths to make me who I am that's the more interesting story. |
