I watch al Jazeera a lot now. It shows good documentaries, and when the news is on, they actually show news.

I also watch CBC a lot, they have good coverage of the news and good documentaries, but the current Canadian government just made deep cuts to the CBC, probably because Harper wants to dumb down the Canadian populace just like the Americans are, so you can't have good TV like CBC. Dumbed down is the only way neocons can get ahead, because they're scammers but not that good at scamming so they need their subjects dumb. I don't expect to see CBC have quality programming much longer. Pretty soon I bet it would be like American "news" channels where when you turn it on you see Kim Kardashian's ass.

We don't get The History Channel. After reading these rants, I'm glad we don't. I like The Discovery Channel. Especially the documenteries about plants and animals they show. I also used to like Animal Planet... Till they dubbed their shows in Hindi, in South India. Their voices make me wanna punch people in the face.

You'd get a better history lesson reading Wikipedia to be perfectly honest. It may be biased and inaccurate to some degree but Wiki does link to sources off-site and is far less stupid than the programming content of the Hitlery Channel.

I doubt they have an Afrocentrist responsible there at History Channel HQ. It is probably some white Liberal.

That is another channel that used to be good. I don't recall seeing anything that interested me lately. Maybe they put out good stuff from time to time?

I remember when I was a kid watching Mutual of Omaha Wildlife Kingdom. That was a good show but I don't think it was on a special channel.

Yeah. Some shows were REALLY cheesy, though.

You guys should check out some of the documentaries on SBS in Australia. You might be able to get it online.

Quality stuff.

I used to love Al Jazeera during my commie hippie phase, but nowadays I can't stand even their being mentioned, but part of this hatred comes from ethnic bias, because of their jumping in on the "let's portray the DR as a brown version of Nazi Germany" bandwagon.

It's too much commercial (brainwashing) and bias on TV. I unplugged long ago, don't even have the coaxial cable in the TV. I seriously get angry watching TV.

I was watching Al Jazeera the day the MV Mavi Marmara was boarded by Israeli commandos. One of their journalist ladies was at some other location giving commentary. She was really emotional, on the verge of tears... at any moment I expected the mascara to start running down her face like Tammy Faye Bakker. So no, I don't consider them unbiased really. LOL.

Ironically enough, the last time I sat and watched TV for an extended period of time was when following a Brazilian soap opera of those made by TV Globo a couple of years ago. It's superfluous to mention the reason for that. :-D

I found anything I have watched on Al Jazeera unbiased. Like one time I was watching a documentary on the War on Terror, and the presented the points of view of everybody: American government officials, ordinary Americans, al Qaeda members, and ordinary people in the Middle East.

Nat Geo is great.

I've pointed though out though, that basic cable has no quality, educational, and mind stimulating TV (or very little of it).

If you want that TV, you have to buy a deluxe cable package. So poor people only get the dumb TV. Keeping them dumb, is a way to keep them poor.

The only "intelligent" show, and people view it as not intelligent or as "trash", is Family Guy. Well, you can enjoy Family Guy if you're uneducated or dumb, but with all the subtleties and references in the show, you enjoy it that much more if you're well educated.

The National Geographic is a little better, and also BBC documentaries. Sometimes there is something interesting on the Planete. Overall, I think that the quality of the documentary channels all the time decreases. This follows from the struggle to increase the number of viewers using the simplest means. So they try to interest even completely uneducated idiots with no idea about history or any other science.
