They're only really 1% of the population so most people just overlook them. I'm pretty sure there's a Chinatown in Havana though!

He didn't want the Chino there.

Why would he do that? I've never heard that but it could be true. They're still there, but they were never a large part of the population to begin with.

That's not true. Some left because they knew thing were going to get bad, but Castro never made them leave. I think the people who are most overlooked are the Japanese and Korean because they weren't a group as big as the Chinese. The book I was reading mentions the Korean and how their immigration to Cuba and what they did for Cuba. There were two type of immigration. There were those who came straight from China and the one who came via the United States. The one who didn't like them was the U.S because they try to put restriction on Chinese immigration to Cuba just like they were doing at that time in the U.S.

^No, he didn't make them leave. There are some still there; but much fewer. Over the 100+ from when the Chinese first came, there was some inter-marriage between the Chinese immigrants and mulattas, as well as the Chinese and guajiras, so some of their mixed descendants are also there. From what I have heard anecdotally, it was Chinese men intermarrying, not women. The Chinatown in Havana used to be pretty fantastic-one of the largest in the America's (I think SF's was the only one bigger). Chinese were only 1%+ of the population. Most came in the mid 19th century, but there was also a sizeable influx right after Mao's revolution. Poor guys went out of the frying pan and into the fire by coming to Cuba in the 40's-50's. In any case, the majority of the Chinese, I believe, left after the Cuban revolution. As we Cubans say "Chinos no son bobos".

They mostly intermarried because there were more Chinese men than women (There were barely any women). The place where my mom goes to buy Chinese food a Cuban women who looks very Chinese works there. Most Chinese Cuban intermarried with black, mulatta, and white Cuban, but there are probably a few who might still be pure.
