According to the US census, 33% or so of the Mexicans in San Jose, CA identify as white hispanics. I think what that means is 33% of them are relatively light skinned or somewhat Euro looking and thus identify as white but I know without a doubt 33% of them don't actually resemble Spaniards or other Europeans.

None of it is correct and no one should take US census seriously, the only ones who look white would be the Cubans and the Uruguayans and Argentinians from Florida. The rest are not white.

I do take it seriously for most things but the Hispanic/Latino category doesn't really work with the Census. Mexicans, Central Americans and South Americans are far too diverse for that.

Regardless, even for other ethnic groups, it's not in depth enough. It lumps all MENA's into the Caucasian category when the majority wouldn't be seen as "white" in the U.S.

38% of Guatemalans and 40% of Salvadorans consider themselves White. GTFOH.i= Less than 5% of both of these groups barely look Harnizo, let also White.

IMO, about 20-25% of Mexicans in the US look either White or Off White. A lot of the Chicanos I posted in this thread are in the Castizo range or look close to Meditternean White.

I am suprised any latino group in the u.s would consider themselves white as a race especially puerto ricans
the whitest puerto rican that ever walked down the street of new york city will swear up and down that he is a person of color
even the ones with light colored hair or eyes.
id say quadroons and triracials make up the majority of newyoricans but there are aloooooot of us here, so it is likely alot of white pricans here too ... i see them all the time they are just under a costume of urban styled clothing and haircuts...so its even more confusing in nyc you often here the phrase" oh he is puerto rican? but he looks white?(blacketc)"

I think the Salvadorian Harnizo and castizo population is a bit higher than that, maybe 15%. But being from Central America they are heavily mixed with Amerindian.

I've noticed a lot of Puerto Ricans look like depigmented Africans. But they definitely have a sizable white population. My ex coworker was Puerto Rican and looked very southern Euro. When I tried explaining to her that her ethnicity might be PR but her race is white she looked at me like I was crazy LOL.
