What is your opinion on this? Are Austrians just Germans with a different political label or are they a viable separate ethnic group from the Germans? And what physical differences do you think exist between the two groups?

True, but is it still not possible for a new ethnic group to emerge? Or how long until they are considered a separate ethnic group? In my view, they look very similar to Bavarians in culture and language, and since Bavarians are considered German obviously, why aren't Austrians as well.

I think up to the defeat of Third Reich in 1945 most of the Austrian proudly considered themselves German and had a strong desire to join their brothers in the north. However, things changed after 1945 with the emergence of Austrian Nationalism. Many Austrian try to distance themselves from German as much as possible to avoid any association with the Nazi past and some even go to great length to claim they were victim of Nazi Germany at that time.

I read that in these days only a faction of Austrian (most of the members of Freedom Party) still want to cling with the idea of Greater Germany..

Most part of Austria belonged to the Holly Roman Empire of the German Nation, they are all German tribes, they speak German, they like beer and sausages, they have the same culture they support each other in politics, Austria claims to be neutral, but in reality follows the example of Germany etc etc.

They look totally different to northern Germans, although they overlap somewhat with south Germans.

They also have very low blondism, I think levels of 10% proper blondism is about right.

I remember speaking to numerous tiroleans who were ethnic Austrian with dark curly hair and very short (5'8 - 5'9) range - it appeared to be the norm.

Where did you visit? Ive been to Linz,Vienna and Tirol. Something worth noting is that around 35% of Vienna is foreign born - the UN headquaters are there for example. In Austira its well over 300,000 are from Yugoslavia alone also. I think you need to visit some rural area to get a good idea of what they're like.

I think curly hair (and wavy-curly) isn't rare among western europeans. I would say it's more (european standards) a west-east decline. Iberia, France, UK, Italy, Western Germany...have a lot of dark curly/wavy-haired people.

Austria was the epicenter of an empire wich compelled lots of peoples who were already a mix of various historical peoples (celts, rhaetians, slavs, germans, illyrians, hungarians...) It's not an isolated place, you can find many different phenos there.

No offence, but you probably don't know what blonde hair is. Arabs tend to think that brown hair is blonde. Like 10% of those people are blonde (excluding the children, and BTW, WHY do people post pictures of children, and excluding those that have dyed their hair).
