Default Pressure to look a certain way
Which group of females have it the hardest ?

I believe Brittany Murphy fell victim to pressure in Hollywood.

1.Whites (including Europeans)

2.Asians (Indians Chinese,Japanese)

3.Blacks(Africans African Americans,West Indians etc)

4.Amerinidans

5.Hispanics (Light Puerto Ricans, mestizo etc )

I think whites have it the hardest. They seem to suffer the most from bulimia anorexia and other disorders. While black women (and probably other races) can have bigger hips etc.

I think all races of women have it bad. I could say in different ways, but the "ideal" look for all races go in the same direction.

In broad classifications,

White women: Barbie (Blonde, impossibly thin, blue eyes).
Black women: Good hair, light skin, reasonably "thick" (not Monique fat or Jessica White thin)
Asian women: "Fair" skin, double eyelid surgery

Not sure about Latina women (i.e. mixed white/native types in the americas) but I can imagine that it would fall in a mid-point of the pressures mounted on white and black women. Same for other in-between races as well

Now, there is a difference between pressure and succumbing to pressure - not all white women want to be blonde, blue-eyed and model-thin, and many black women would not trade their dark skin and African hair for anything else.

Another question is who, or what, creates this pressure? Fellow women? Media? Men? A mixture? Nature?

I pick the fourth possibility, with men holding slightly more influence over other causes.

Indian girls definitely. The Indian media selects Europid looking females when the average Indian girl looks like a pariah. Forcing M mtdna to look like H/V/J/T/U is very cruel.

In regards to looking like the ideal beauty for the average guy, it depends on what that ideal is in any particular spot in the world.

For LatinAmericans, its a range that depends on the country. If I had to generalize it, I'd say it's the 'mixed' looking women (mestiza/mulatta/tri-racial) with a phenotype that either shows a 50/50 blend or tilts towards stereotypical 'Euro' feautures. I can't speak for the heavily Euro. influenced Argentines or Uruguayans, but someone considered good looking in Mexico, Venezuela , Puerto Rico, Colombian, etc. will generally be considered good looking all over LatinAmerica. This doesn't mean women who have more stereotypically non-Euro. influenced features are automatically considered ugly.

So are you saying in Latin America. A puerto rican triracial who is pred European Looking, would be seen in the sameway a black influence Dominican would?

Well, ofcourse it depends on what society you live in, but if you say the Western world like Europe and US, and the most shallow place on earth, Hollywood I'd say blacks and maybe whites to some extent.

1.Whites (including Europeans)
Like you say, the pressure of being skinny for (white) females is huge, cuz for some reason it's more unacceptable for white women to have curves than blacks for example.

And this hysteria about tanning is very unnecessary, but thankfully it's passing, finally pale skin is appreciated again (thanks to the vampire thing!)

2.Asians (Indians Chinese,Japanese)
I'd say at least East Asians are pretty appreciated these days for their looks, white men doesn't seem to get enough of them.

3.Blacks(Africans African Americans,West Indians etc)
Blacks defintley have a hairproblem, there seem to be very few who likes afros, even among black men it seems like straight hair is preffered. Relaxing/wigs/weaves seems almost obvious to most people, allthough it's anything but natural.

And also the big noses seem to be an issue for both the blacks themselves and to the Western world's bueaty ideal, it has never been appreciated, many blacks gets nosejobs done. Allthough the dark skincolour seem to be more accepted now than ever, or at least the more lightskinned ones.

4.Amerinidans
I know too little about this to have a statement.

5.Hispanics (Light Puerto Ricans, mestizo etc )
I have to say Latinas seem to be pretty comfortable with themselves.

She was beautiful, I hope she never doubted that.

I'd say black women; the very stereotypically Sub-Saharan looking ones. Not only is it the facial features that contrast a bit with Europeans , but also the hair and skin color.

Black women very rarely suffer from eating disorders. Infact I saw an article that said black women thought the highest of body image.

You sound a little upset. Despite of weaves or ''unfavourable features''you still have quite a few black supermodels/models. Also I didn't know latino was a race.

In the USA ,white women ,they strive to look like the hollywood tooth picks , latinas aren't influenced by hollywood looks or body types.

are you seriously asking? they can go to jail for not looking how they are supposed to (and here only speaking about appearance/ outfits, let's not even start with the list of human rights from which women are deprived in Islamist societies ,and i dont mean the "mulsim world", no, just those countries where government and religion are one thing)

Oh, that.

I didn't think the topic was going along this direction, but I see what you mean.

Solange did an interview and she said all the European guys she dated didn't like her weaves/extensions. One of her reasons for going bald. I also had a Spainiard guy tell me that he prefer my skin darker.

These beauty ideals are useless a lot of the time. I consider this group of women similar in terms of beauty (same thing, different ways):

Good post. But its not really what I mean. Nomar brought up a good point. Hollywood, magazines, commercial and TV shows, in away put a spotlight on white women. I'm not saying other women are not affected by the it. But they have it worst since there are more of them in the spotlight ie, role models. I saw an anorexia clinic and all the girls and women in it were white. The reason for this thread is because I was watching a white singer discussing her weight and the pressure she felt to stay a certain size. Nearly all the black women who feel pressure to stay a certain size are models.

I think women in general have it harder than men in having to fit a certain image. Black women are expected to have curves and be thick. White women are expected to be thin and barbie-like. I think latin put less emphasis on body image. Most are encouraged to carry a little weight. Not sure about middle eastern or indian women.
You probably see more heavy set men with in shape women than the other way around. Its more acceptable for men to carry some extra weight.

whats interesting to observe in when you watch bet and you only see light skinned heavily mixed black women. On the spanish stations you see mostly european influenced hispanics, etc. I would say the same goes for bollywood.

Well, I personally don't like that type of cut on a woman. I'd rather a woman have weave than near bald hair. Of course, this probably goes back to childhood in our society, ie we are taught that long hair is generally a "woman thing." I cannot erase this from my mind; I love longer hair. I feel that only the most beautiful faces can pull off shorter or no hair, and generally most of those would *still* look better with longer hair.^^^^^^Also, that weave picture was obviously picked to make the short cut look better lol.

I have more time now, so I can give a better answer to the topic question.

Basically, I mean black, American women have it the hardest, but maybe it's just that I'm exposed to more of them than other women. On one black women's forum, in which the majority of posters are American, there is an overwhelming amount of topics about interracial couples and light skin vs. dark skin. I don't know, it may just be certain self conscious individuals that post this stuff all of the time, but none-the-less these threads are common.

Whenever people talk about "African features," you should see the responses. The women on the site are quick to point out how "x" feature is *not* the only feature present in African people, thus we should stop stereotyping and marvel at the diversity which is African.

Now, I will admit that, as with any other population, there is a variety of looks, but generally there are features that predominate as well (I already know you guys acknowledge this). Downplaying these more common features by saying another feature, that btw happens to be more common in either mixed people, or Europeans, does not really help the situation for many black women. Imo, those types of responses confirm that such features are not desired (by the poster at hand).

No, there are still tanning junkies out there who gotta have their fix, but my point was that it's appreciated and trendy to be pale nowadays

There are models of all races these days, anything else would be RACIST!

Also I didn't know latino was a race.
I was reffering to the same group as you were, (light and mestizo types)
