![]() South African-born Mr Myerson, who has built a reputation as ruthless corporate raider and asset stripper, met Miss Denley in 1998, when she was working for a company in which he had invested. He said: 'Like many men, I've had a number of extra-marital affairs. But since 1998 Clare and I have been together - effectively as common-law man and wife - in a relationship that existed in parallel with my marriage. 'I never told Ingrid about Clare but I was an extremely good and caring husband, providing her with a wonderful lifestyle.' Mr Myerson set up Miss Denley, 46, and their son Charlie, now eight, in a house close to his other family home, a £7million townhouse in Hampstead, North London. And when he took his wife and their three children to their £1.5million beach house in South Africa, he secretly rented a villa nearby for his second family. Mr Myerson said he never wanted a divorce and had hoped Ingrid would turn a blind eye to his affair. He said: 'Ingrid had 25 years of wonderful marriage. If she had been prepared to tolerate Clare and carry on, we wouldn't have wasted £1.5million on legal fees. But I have no regrets. Given the chance, I would do it all again. 'You get married men who have children with mistresses and pretend they never happened. That's disgraceful. 'I might be an old-fashioned male chauvinist but I believe men should look after all their children and the women they are involved with in a traditional way.' Asked how he would have felt if his wife had cheated on him, he said: 'I would have been furious. It's just the way I am. I can cheat on her but I would never have allowed her to do it to me.' |
