Well USA has many different ethnic groups and it is hard to expect others to know every country or an aspect about their culture. I'm not offended by the term as I think of it being used for reference, not identity.

It's the same with the term white in USA. I doubt most people know or care about every European country x person is from, they're just white.

I'm against it.

For example, I'm racially and culturally more similar to a French, than to a Bolivian Aymara. I'm racially and culturally more similar to a British, than to a Black Colombian from the Pacific Coast. It's a really broad concept. To want to make it racial is odd..

Well, all ethnic Europeans are of the same race, anyway. They have that in common, at least. When it comes "Hispanics", it's much more complex, since there is no common racial bond like there is among Europeans.

FYI the label of black and white is just as diverse. Russians, Persians, Appalachians and Arabs are lumped together as white. Black can mean an Ethiopian, a Cape Verdian quadroon, a Sudanese Arab or biracial African American. And Asian includes so many diverse ethnic groups most of which are not united by language. Latinos though all speak either Spanish or Portuguese and share similar history/cultures. So I'd say Hispanics are actually better off than most other socio-political groups because they share so much culture and history. Hispanic to me is not a 'race' label but an ethnic group/socio-political group.

Very true, for example im more culturally similar to french than Guatemalans, i am more culturally similar to English than Bolivians, me and swedish carry the same y-dna so it makes me super close like BFF mode to them than the rest of latin americans: with their little R1b

I am different from the rest of you, dont lump me with latin americans

Certain government programs don't have voluntary identification like the Census does. The caseworker will take a gander and check off the boxes for you based on eye-balling. Like the old days. That was the case during our free lunch programs where I worked. The caseworker walked up to each child, looked, and checked the race boxes based on best guess. Needless to say, there were some misidentifications. When I asked the caseworker why not ask the child, she said, "We only want estimates. It's quicker to look and put it down." I already shared my police experience. I was apparently a first generation Dominican. At least that's the the officer told me I was.

They need to get their stuff together...

I dont like it when someone who looks hispanic is labeled mexican, anything you do and appear on the news, they blame mexicans like the case of Zimmerman, people thought he was mexicans, and all you heard was comments from blacks saying 'these beaners hate black people, wake up yall' lol the Marasalvatrucha is another one, many think its a mexican gang 'these beaners need to get deported' it has done us bad because at the end up the day, we take the blame for what other latinos cause unless you look mulatto or black. I hate it.
