There is a lot of softcore racism but plenty of it is up an individuals capacity to cope with it, mainly jokes or exploitation of stereotypes. They have equal chances at getting a job, but a pred Med father will not be happy to see a negro date his daughter. He may accept him but he will treat him different. Or for example, n my house my father likes friends who look more like us than black PR's. He is suspicious of them, for some reason. That is a prejudice. Not necessarily racism. I doubt people think of themselves as better than a Black PR.

Are there Black PRs everywhere on the island though? Does everyone interact with Black PRs? Because I have not gotten that impression from island PRs in Miami. What is even the REAL % of Black ppl in PR? |

Truthfully I only know one. They are rare around my parts but every time I get out to San Juan I see some, though they are a minority too. My friend is from Maunabo though a pred afro town. And Yes, my father associates darker people with ''the projects'' or ''trouble'', that is a prejudice. |

Yes Jibaro that may be it. I know he is not racist, if not he could not have an affair with a dominican.
Santurce and Cantera used to be the places where you saw PR mulatos with dark skin. Now with nearly 400,000 Dominicans (10% of our population) you can see lots of black people in San Juan. Maybe 2 out of 5 or 3 out of 5. There is more than a 50% that they will not be Puertoricans though. ---------- Post added 2012-06-21 at 16:04 ---------- I meant 2 out of 5 or 3 out of 5 in Santurce/Canteras. In Miramar, Condado and Viejo San Juan it would be more like none or 1 out of 5. |
