The NFL might not want to see any of their players in any official capacity at the moment, but that doesn't mean it doesn't want talk to them. Commissioner Goodell wants them to get back to the bargaining table, and then get back to work. And so he sent the players an email:

"We want you to understand the offer that we made to the NFLPA. The proposal was made to avoid a work stoppage. Each passing day puts our game and our shared economics further at risk. We believe the offer presented a strong and fair basis for continuing negotiations, allowing the new league year and free agency to begin, and growing our game in the years to come...I hope you will encourage your Union to return to the bargaining table and conclude a new collective bargaining agreement."

Chester Pitts of the Seahawks was one of those players on the receiving end of that correspondence:

"I've told my guys to take the letter and set it on fire. We're not that stupid."
Except that it was an email, so in order to set it on fire, they would have to print it out first. Unless they just set their computers on fire. Take that!

So the NFL wants to continue to negotiate? Sounds good, lets get some more mediation going. I'm confused about what they are saying, I guess.

This is starting to turn into a "he said, she said" fiasco. NFLPA is crying wolf and saying the NFL books are a lie and the NFL and the owners are saying the NFLPA is being too greedy and beligerant. If you all are off by $185,000,000, then split it down the middle and that's it. I know it's not quite that simple, but there has to be something that they could do to split it roughly down the middle.
