moses is a dope too. ed reed also plays ss. so it's fair to say no one has ever played fs like brian dawkins. hof.

Ed Reed is a FS...
Johnny Robinson was a FS...
Cliff Harris was a FS...
Deron Cherry was a FS...
Nolan Cromwell was a FS...but he did play some SS too.

if Dawkins goes in, why shouldn't they be in???

Reed will eventually be in....IMO.

Since their careers were so similar? I think all of those guys you mentioned are very different style of players than Dawkins. They were all the older style cover safeties who largely got more interceptions because of the more lax rules than today's DB's had to deal with.

so a guy with similar skill set to dawkins was moved to fs halfway through his career?

players like Dawkins, Polamalu etc are all over the field nowadays and are only FS/SS in name only.....

but look at Johnny Robinson......7 time All-Pro and 6 Time 1st Team All-Pro and is not in the HOF....if he can't make it, neither can Dawkins.

he's from yesteryear but.....

this is nothing against Dawkins......I could see him being inducted but if it was up to me......he wouldn't be going in as a 1st ballot guy for sure.

again JMO.

I guess they moved him to the position to get the most out of his considerable skills.

I'm not a Coach on the Ratbirds so I don't know the reasoning behind it....

And when did that trend of safeties all over the field start?

when Dick LeBeau took charge of the Zone Blitz.

Now? Yes. When we had Johnson? Eh. I'd have been very happy with either.

both were able to get the most out of their players and put them in positions to succeed but as a Steelers fan I'd take LeBeau......Steelers Defensive numbers speak for themselves under his guidance!

Are you telling me Dawkins didn't play more like a SS than a FS at times? Depending on the defensive coordinator, the two positions can be interchangeable.

Default HOF: Brian Dawkins
Before Troy Polamalu graced NFL fields with his lovable locks, Brian Dawkins quietly, and sometimes not so quietly, made a name for himself in the City of Brothery Love.

Dawkins has had a career that has included over 200 career starts on defense, 23 sacks, 37 interceptions, 35 forced fumbles, 19 fumble recoveries, 3 defensive touchdowns, 8 trips to the Pro Bowl, and 4 times as a first team All Pro.

While his career isn't over just yet, does Dawkins belong in the Hall of Fame?
