Crybaby Packers. Maybe they should get out of the billionaires' business.

I really can't see the owners killing the golden goose.

If they are going to mandate shorter rookie contracts, they can't eliminate the franchise tag. Hell, they should expand it, in that case.

Why do you want to eliminate the franchise tag?

You have to give the players something.

it's not so much a "want" but a needed compromise.....

Nobody who gets franchised is going to need a charity banquet thrown for them. They're guaranteed to go to the bank. I think it's a good rule and already a win/win.

Some do. I don't imagine that's universal.

Increase the roster size, and eliminate game day in-actives.

There's your compromise.

it limits their ability to get on open market and have a bidding war.

Apparently Jerrah is in the camp of owners that wouldn't mind the season being missed.

I have to hope that the players are successful in their lawsuit against the league involving their "lockout insurance" tv contracts.

True. But do you want teams with smaller revenue bases (like the Vikes) to lose key players to bidding wars?

Vikes are 31st in revenue, it's not like we're at the bottom

I don't think removing franchise tag will change the competitive balance as long as there is a salary cap and revenue sharing.

When the vikes get new stadium, they'll no longer be at the bottom in revenue. If that new stadium is in LA or elsewhere, I'll no longer care what happens.

thats a good list. I think in order to get the rookie wage scale we'd have to have shorter contracts so that really good players dont get dicked.

This was a NLFPA "want" from the last few CBAs. Why would the owners want a franchise tag? The average of the top 5 (or is it 10) salaries for that position? That is a high price for a 1 year loan.

I think Franchise is average of the top 5 and Transitional tag is average of the top 10 salary.

I don't know if the NFLPA still likes all the aspects of the franchise and transition tags, we'll see.
