Default channing crowder- that boy aint right
after his statements about london a few years ago i didn't think the guy could get any dumber.

Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder says the only way of preventing helmet-to-helmet hits is to eliminate the helmet.

Otherwise he's going to use his, regardless of punishment from league officials.

"If I get a chance to knock somebody out, I'm going to knock them out and take what they give me," Crowder said Wednesday. "They give me a helmet, I'm going to use it."

After several recent helmet-to-helmet hits, several of which resulted in concussions, the NFL ramped up the punishment Tuesday. Three players received big fines, and the league warned that starting with this week's games, violent conduct will be cause for suspension.

There's particular concern about helmet hits, but many players are unhappy about the crackdown. That includes Crowder, who said concussions are a normal part of the game.

He thinks he gets one every week and often keeps playing.

"If I'm knocked out, I don't know where I'm at, I can't say my name, now I can't play football," he said. "If I get hit in the head and black out for a second and now I get back up dizzy, OK, I'm ready to go."

Crowder missed the first four games this season because of an injury -- to his groin -- before rejoining the lineup last week. He said he has been getting concussions since high school, but in six NFL seasons he has missed only 13 games, none because of a concussion.

Crowder said the NFL is "making a big deal about nothing" and cited money as the motivation.

"They want to save the receivers and quarterbacks because they sell all the jerseys," Crowder said. "They don't give a damn at all about defensive players because we don't sell as many jerseys as them. ...

"If they want to change football to a graceful sport, change it all the way to a graceful sport. Don't try to save the quarterbacks and receivers because they make the money, which that's what they're doing," he said.

Channing Crowder hates money apparently. He just placed an enormous target on his back.

In Crowders world, concussion = slap on the ass.

QED.

Looks like Crowder is already showing brain damage from his previous concussions.

It would explain so so much.

Yep. Nothing like talking smack about the hot button topic. The NFL WILL make an example out of him within the next few weeks.

But he has a point.

Do helmets prevent concussions or cause them?

Playing without helmets isn't the answer, but maybe something that cusions the blow without giving Dain Bramage to someone else.

JoePa and Ditka are proponents of getting rid of facemasks.

Or they can go to these and people will be launching themselves head first into everything:

I've said this before, but go look at video of guys like Dick Butkus, Chuck Bednarik, Ray Nitschke, etc, etc, etc. You don't EVER see those dudes leading with the helmet. Because they knew they'd fuck themselves up just as bad as the guy they're hitting.

The advancements in helmet technology has turned them into weapons, and the guys wearing them are full aware of this fact.

I agree. What good are those things?

Just another thing to get your finger caught in.

Put plexiglass on your helmet if you are worried about your grille.

I just watched the NFL video on legal vs illegal hits. Good stuff.

Pretty easy solution for defenders - Do not launch yourself. Use your shoulder to hit the center of mass (chest area). Wrap up (not stated in the video, but it would solve a lot of the issues).

Yeah, I heard the argument from Sapp that this will lead to a defender hitting a ball carrier with his shoulder, the ball carrier bouncing off and running for a TD. My first thought was "Not if the defender wraps him up!"

then they are both a couple a maroons. if they removed the facemask and kept the same helmet then someone would die.

this is all just a stupid knee jerk reaction by the NFL.

Not necessarily. But you'd have guys lose out on a lot of good marketing opportunities.

Completely agree. Tackling is a lost art. Guys just HIT nowadays, they don't use their hands and arms to wrap up and drag down ball carriers.

And all of the bitching and moaning about how this is going to ruin the league is bullshit. They've been saying the same shit for years and years and the game seems to be surviving just fine.
