Default More "Innovative" Defensive Player
While I think there are others whom you will consider, I think these two were the most innovative as they changed Offensive schemes as a result.

Both scum bags, so only consider on-field performance/ability.

Lewis was an amazing player, but I don't know how innovative he was. LT changed the game.

I mainly considered him for the fear he instilled. It's been a while since the league's had a ball-hunting LB who stuck around longer than 5-6 yrs.

Ray Lewis....seriously? Even if I just stick with MLB's, Zack Thomas did more to change the game than Ray Lewis.

LT by light years. I know this because LT played the same time as #50, and as good as Singletary was(better then Lewis), he didn't change schemes like Taylor.

So here's how we can settle this argument ... go out there and tell me how many times you want to run in Ray's direction.

Let me guess, you're upset I didn't say LT or Urlacher, rather than Lewis?

Bad guess. Lewis is your classic MLB who really did nothing to change the position.

Lewis may have been the best LB'er of his generation, but he didn't change the game.

I think guys like Brian Dawkins, Ed Reed, and Troy Polamalu changed the game more then Lewis.

Agreed
Phans agreeing on something?! Shocking!

As far as guys in the secondary, I would give Dawkins my vote for being the most game-change-ingest.

To a certain extent I would agree.

Reed was more of a gamechanger in that most of his skillset is coverage. He was more of a product of changes in the game that started with moving a vet CB (such as Rod Woodson or Tory Vincent) over to FS most guys that played that spot were in the box safeties.

I don't see Dawkins or Polamalu changing the game much outside of having more coverage ability than someone like Darren Woodson or Steve Atwater did.

I may be biased, but I would throw LeRoy Butler in there too.

Lewis plays the middle, LT was on the outside. I don't think the impact they can have on any given game is comparable, in all honesty.

I agree. LT was known for his pass rushing which is not something anyone points out in Lewis game.

If you look, he is the first to join the 20/20 club of 20 Int's and 20 sacks. Which is the one the thing Dawkins is known for, but let's not question Dawkins being a game changer. Had his career not been stopped short, he's a HOFer. He did a lot more than people give him credit for.
