Another team grasping at straws to try and make something happen. Sheer lunacy.

Which one?

Sensbachtal 09-24-2009 06:25 PM

Tampering is hard to prove, but I wouldn't put it past the Jets. If the 49ers can't sign him, they should at least try to work out a trade for a future 1st.

Dwencejed 09-24-2009 06:41 PM

I don't think there is anyway he actually follows through with the threat. He'll lose an entire year's worth of salary and be one year farther removed from FA.

Not to mention the chances of him getting drafted high are pretty slim since he'll have been out of football an entire year.

If I were the Niners I wouldn't trade him. I'd make him prove it.

CarrieSexy 09-24-2009 06:46 PM

You know, I don't think they can trade him at this point anyway. I think he could only be traded until August sometime...at least I read that somewhere in the last couple days. I thought they had to wait until March to try to trade him again?

the only thing about that is it sucks for the niners not to trade him, so i would imagine they move his rights somehow.

As for crabtree himself, I hope the niners hold onto his ass and make him sit out the rest of the year, so he can lose even more money than he thinks he deserves.

I hope dick for brains gets less than half was was guaranteed by the niners. It would be awesome for him to go undrafted if he cycles back through, but some nfl team will pounce on him.

Pasy 09-24-2009 06:51 PM

Crabtree is an idiot. He certainly isn't going to get more money next year in the draft.

I think they have until sometime in November to trade him.

yeah, he can't be traded now. and you are correct, march is the soonest he would be eligible to be traded.

The quote about York trying to schedule a face-to-face meeting seems pretty damning to me. But I don't know who he said that to or where that came from.

His rights could've been traded until August sometime. Now they have until November 17th to sign him. If they don't sign him by then, nothing can be done with him until March -- at that point they could trade or sign him, right?

yeah, aug. 14th was the last day he could be traded. if he isn't signed by nov. 17th then he can't play this year and the earliest he could be traded would be march 5th.

Верещагин 09-24-2009 07:18 PM

The 49ers have until Nov. 17 to sign Crabtree -- the 10th overall pick -- or surrender his rights, which would force him back into the pool for 2010's draft. Or they could trade his rights to another team by Oct. 20, the NFL's trade deadline.

So ESPN was wrong? Am I the only one who read this in the 1st post?

Correct me if i'm wrong....

That first post is wrong. Oct. 20th is the NFL trade deadline, but that doesn't apply to a drafted player's rights...only to player's on an NFL roster. August 14th was the deadline to trade a drafted player's rights.

Ahhh Got ya'. I wonder if they could sign-and-trade...

Good question. I'm not sure...I haven't heard that scenario presented.

There is no chance that happens. To do so would mean either Crabtree gets 0 guaranteed money (obviously, he's not going to want that) or the 49ers are paying a cap hit on a guy who they have no interesting in keeping which isn't happening.

Couldn't the guaranteed money be paid in the form of a roster bonus paid out after the trade is final, making it the responsibility of the team he is traded to?

Al Davis tried that and it never turns out good for either side. Bad idea.

Let the kid learn that if he goes beyond the signing deadline that he'll earn less than he think she will.

The Niners have, so far, shown they don't need him anyway this year.
